John Cavazos, originally from Los Angeles, made his Broadway debut in the 25th Anniversary Revival of My Fair Lady, staring the original Henry Higgins, Tony and Oscar winning actor, Rex Harrison. He also had the great privilege of working with Stephen Sondheim, when he was cast in a starring role in Sondheim’s exotic musical work, Pacific Overtures!
After spending nearly, a decade on Broadway, National Tours, Summer Stock, Regional Theatre, Commercials and Cruise Ships, John moved from New York City to Orlando and began his Disney career singing with Disney’s premier vocal group, The Voices of Liberty, and the Dapper Dan’s of Main Street where he spent 13 years before retiring in 2017. John also served as rehearsal conductor for Disney’s Candlelight Cast Choir for 15 years as well as a Teaching Artist for Disney Performing Arts.
John has had a private vocal studio in Orlando for the last 22 years. His clientele represents the following Broadway productions: Wicked, The Prom, Evita, Adams Family, MJ, Book of Mormon, Hamilton, The Lion King, In the Heights, The Little Mermaid and Newsies. His clientele represents the following Disney/Universal productions: Beauty and the Beast, Nemo, the Musical, The Hoop Dee Doo Review, the Dapper Dan’s of Mainstreet, The Voices of Liberty, Frog Choir, Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees, Grinchmas, Sing it, as well as several other shows at Sea World and Busch Gardens and he is one of the most in demand vocal teachers and coaches in Central Florida!
For many years, John was a sought-after studio session singer, and concert soloist in Central Florida, having performed with the Sarasota Orchestra, the Orlando Philharmonic and Orlando Sings/Solaria. He has worked for the last 4 years as Musical Director with The Orlando Shakespeare Theatre for The Fantasticks, A Christmas Carol, Henry V as well as writing, staging and directing “Tonight: A Tribute to Stephen Sondheim” for The Shakes’ Cabaret Series.
He holds a B.A. in music from Rollins College, where he is currently an adjunct Professor of Voice and occasionally directs and stages productions for the School of Music.
John has been married for 35 years to his sweetheart, Annie and they have 2 lovely grownup married daughters!
